Light sources for reference standards
With the rapid development of LEDs during the last few years it was possible to obtain differently colored high intensity LED lamps. Exact color and light emission of these LED’s, however, may vary even within one production series – therefore the availability of very precisely calibrated reference LED’s is crucial for high quality LED production and application.
INPHORA specializes in designing and building reference type of light sources to be used as laboratory calibration standards. INPHORA designed a special self-contained LED standard, where the LED is temperature stabilized and is fed by a highly stabilized current to achieve maximum short and long-term stability.
In addition to ensuring long term stability of the reference LEDs they are carefully selected and tested; they are burned for few hundred hours at moderate current levels until their light output becomes very stable.
Technical Characterisation
The DES units, also called Standard LEDs, are calibrated using methods recommended by CIE, NIST, and the German and British equivalent, PTB and NPL. Standard LEDs are specially selected after 800 hours aging for stability. The lamps are attached to a thermally stabilized connector head. The temperature is maintained above room temperature for stability and reproducibility of the light output.
Our IPR-DES2 series of standard light sources incorporate the reference LED with the controller unit ensuring the requested current- and thermal stability without the need of any external controller.
INPHORA’s latest addition to its product line is IPR-DES4, a high brightness LED calibration standard. Developed by Nanoport Technologies, Inphora’s strategic partner in Oregon, IPR-DES4 is a pioneer in offering reference standard for the rapidly expanding market of high brightness LEDs.
