Detectors for photometric, colorimetric and radiometric applications
Technology information
Highly uniform Silicon detectors are selected for most of the applications with typical spectral response characteristics. To obtain the desired spectral response of the detector, colored glass-layers are added. In achieving the highest accuracy of the matching to a target function the crucial factor is the selection of the type of glass layers to be used. Inphora has developed a computer program for this purpose; this is utilized for selecting the optimal set of glasses from a large number of available glass sheets with known spectral transmission characteristics.
The selected set of glasses need to be polished to the calculated thickness in order to obtain exactly the desired transmission characteristics of the detector-filter combination.
High precision optical polishing is necessary for obtaining uniformity across the surface area, as well as keeping tolerances of ± 1 micrometer of the specified thickness. The individual colored glass layers of requested thickness are cemented together and placed over the Si detector.
Inhpora produces photometric and colorimetric detectors with the closest match to the CIE tristimulus functions available at this time anywhere. As standard f1’ < 1.5% is available; on request we supply detectors with even more precise matches.
Single Si detectors can be substituted by multi-channel CCD-type cameras; glass-filters can be matched to those as well, however more consideration has to be given to optical elements in the light-pass as well as perfect focusing requirements.
